About Resource
Code for America is a national organization that focuses on bridging the gap between communities and government on issues of digital engagement and access. They collaborate with community members to co-develop insights and source ideas from community members to co-develop real solutions and break down barriers to meet community needs and improve government in meaningful ways. Code for America partners with local institutions to connect them with access to digital resources and talent that can help communities make meaningful impacts. Their organization convenes stakeholders inside government and in the community to help collectively transform government systems to better serve the people. Listening is fundamental to the organization’s approach as they work to understand participants’ priorities. Code for America strives to reach historically marginalized communities, address inequity in the digital realms, and promote civic engagement.
Hack for LA, the official Los Angeles Chapter of Code for America, brings together civic-minded volunteers to build digital products, programs and services with community partners and local government to address issues in the Los Angeles area. “Hack for LA is a great example of how we can harness technology and our city's creativity to solve everyday problems,” said Mayor Eric Garcetti. On the Hack for LA website local community members and interested volunteers can find different active projects and ways to become involved. The chapter also shares a toolkit that includes documented resources that have been used successfully for the open source civic technology software community.
