Daphne Draws Data empowers young people to explore and solve community problems using science and data. Designed for educators, afterschool coordinators, and community program leaders, the book and its accompanying collection of free graphing activities and learning videos help children learn how to collect, visualize, and analyze data in ways that connect directly to their neighborhoods and lived experiences.
By building data literacy alongside critical thinking and collaboration skills, Daphne Draws Data supports the core goals of community science by equipping youth to ask meaningful questions, investigate local challenges, and communicate findings that can inform and inspire change.
How to Use
Educators and program leaders can use Daphne Draws Data as a foundation for youth-led investigations into real-world questions in their communities. Through the Data Detectives program, participants gain access to free, ready-to-use graphing materials, activity guides, and videos that make it easy to facilitate authentic data collection and analysis with elementary and middle school learners.
The program supports both new and existing community science initiatives by providing engaging, standards-aligned resources that help young learners transform curiosity into action. Book donations are also available for underserved communities to help expand access to high-quality data literacy experiences.
